WBC: "God Hates Fags and Steve Jobs"

The Westboro Baptist Church sincerely believes that Steve Jobs was evil. They have released plans to picket his funeral with their trademark "God Hates Fags" signage. The WBC has a profoundly simple belief system: hate. They hate everything and everyone. But most of all, they hate the gays. The members of the WBC firmly believe that:

Sodomites are wicked & sinners before the Lord exceedingly, [sic.] are violent & doom nations, are abominable to God [and] are worthy of death... [+]

Back to Mr. Jobs. As you probably know, the visionary founder of Apple passed away today to an outpouring of grief from some of the world's most influential and powerful people including President Obama, Sergey Brin, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. Margie Phelps of the WBC tweeted tonight (from an iPhone):

Being that I'm gay myself, I have a particular dislike for the WBC. Although godhatesfags.com is their central website, they're definitely equal opportunity haters. With other sites like godhatesislam.com, godhatesthemedia.com, godhatestheworld.com, jewskilledjesus.com, beastobama.com and priestsrapeboys.com, the "church" is perfectly clear on which groups are to be despised.

Although I'm irked about the terrible things they're likely to chant at Mr. Job's funeral, I can always make myself feel a little better by remembering how crazy these people really are. The WBC once picketed a hardware store that sells Swedish vacuum cleaners because the Swedish government imprisoned a preacher for speaking out against homosexuality [+]. In addition, the WBC vehemently believe that Barack Obama is the beast from revelation and that his presidency is a sign of the apocalypse [+].

While I'm still sickened by their beliefs and actions, the ridiculous nature of the motives behind the WBC brings me to feel a sort of pity. Pastor Fred Phelps, his family, and the rest of the followers of this "church" are obviously mentally deficient. Keep them in your prayers in hope of a speedy recovery.

Here's a video to put things in perspective:

It seems like the WBC relies mostly on their sensationalism. They choose the most dramatic, sure-to-piss-people-off thing, and then declare that God hates it. I have to wonder, if the media started ignoring them, would they go away?
